Types of Wires You Might Find
at Home

These are some of the cables you might find at home. Don’t worry, you actually don’t need to learn what they mean since our team of electricians will help you from start to finish! However, this might help you understand the difference between one and the other:

Red Wires

These are hot wires and are usually used as secondary hot wires.

White and Gray Wires

These are neutral wires. Although they are neutral, they can still carry a charge so be careful!

White Wires

Wrapped in black or red electrical tape, are also hot wires. The tape indicates that the white wire, typically neutral, is being used as a hot wire.

Green Wires

These connect the grounding terminal in an outlet box and run it to a ground bus bar in the electrical panel.

Bare Copper

These are the most common
type!

Skilled and Respectful Electricians that Can Help You With Your Custom Home Wiring

Custom home wiring is an involved, tricky task since that has to be done with caution and taking all the needed safety measures. This is why you must hire an experienced electrician that will help you set everything up and make sure it is working correctly to avoid any future risks, damages, or even fires.

Since the 1940s, the electrical code NEC set the “rules of the game” whenever a house was built or rewired. The NEC was created for safety purposes and allowed people to identify the many different types of electrical cables by assigning each one a color. As you might have noticed, there are yellow, white, black, red, or green wires, each color defining a characteristic and purpose of the cable.
